Ukraine's Suspilne and Sweden's SVT in digital cooperation
 07 Apr 2026
Representatives from Suspilne Ukraine studied the experience of their colleagues at the Swedish broadcasters Sveriges Television (SVT) and Sveriges Radio, learning about their approaches to digital transformation, platform development, and the organization of internal technology teams. The training took place in collaboration* with the Swedish Radio Media Development Office (SR MDO).

“The approach taken by our Swedish colleagues is an excellent practical example of the direction modern public broadcasters should take in terms of innovation: safe technologies where the audience’s needs are the top priority. This is the approach we want to implement in Ukraine,” said Dmytro Khilchenko, a member of the board of Suspilne Ukraine.

Colleagues from SVT briefed the Suspilne Ukraine team on the Swedish broadcaster’s updated development strategy, the operations of its news service, and the SVT Play platform. They also shared their experience with using artificial intelligence in editorial and technological processes, demonstrated the company’s new technological structure, the development of video products, and the operation of the SVT Play player.

The second day of the visit was dedicated to the work of Sveriges Radio and their internal digital development model. The discussion focused on the organization of teams that create the company’s own digital products, specifically the ABC text production system and the Play catch-up platform. They also discussed approaches to the development, implementation, and scaling of such services.

A separate segment of the study visit focused on the development of children’s content on digital platforms. Yulia Dychuk, Head of Children’s and Teen Content at Suspilne Ukraine, spoke about Suspilne Ukraine’s children’s content, while Sarah Miller presented the experiences of SVT and Sveriges Radio. The discussion focused on approaches to creating and distributing content for children and the role of digital services in engaging young viewers and listeners.

“It was important for us to see how our Swedish colleagues approach the creation of digital products for children, particularly in terms of child-centered design and attention to detail. Easy navigation, large icons, minimal text, and colorful characters—all of this ensures that children can use the product independently with ease and comfort. We are very impressed by this approach, and we are moving in a similar direction in the development of our “Brobaks” platform.

The experience and case studies from Swedish Radio—on working with on-demand audio formats—were particularly valuable. They demonstrate that audio can become part of a shared family experience,” said Yulia Dychuk.

*Suspilne Ukraine, in partnership with the Swedish Radio Media Development Office (SR MDO) and with financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), is implementing the project “Support for Editorial and Digital Transformation and the Development of Corporate Culture at Public Broadcasting in Ukraine.”
